You bought a MINI-pet? You don't summon it. Move your mouse over it and it should pop up a message saying "double click to take out or put away" (or something to that effect).
See: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Minipets EDIT: I'm not much of a PvP-er. From the wiki: "All of them can be unlocked by paying with Balthazar Faction or Zaishen Coins, or only the non-prestige ones by purchasing the Pet Unlock Pack. PvP characters can only get a new pet by charming one unlocked in the Zaishen Menagerie." You learn something new every day. Last edited by Roen; Oct 12, 2010 at 07:32 PM // 19:32.. |

You didn't really buy a pet. You unlocked it for your PvP characters (this might also have another impact involving the Menagerie and PvE characters but I don't know the details).
You have to equip the "Charm Animal" skill, which is a ranger skill for the pet to show up automatically (not in towns though). So you have to at least have Ranger as a secondary profession and playing a PvP character. Roen: I don't think he's talking about a minipet. I think he's talking about an animal companion. Are you in the Zaishen Menagerie? A little more detail would help. Or just look it up on the wiki...

Actually, you use Charm Animal to acquire a pet, and equipping it does make the pet appear, but once you have a pet, you replace Charm Animal with Comfort Animal. Comfort Animal also makes your pet appear and can be used to heal or rez your pet.

The wiki states that a PvP character (ranger primary or secondary) starts with an Elder Wolf. Does unlocking another pet automatically change your pet or do you need to turn your wolf in somewhere (as you do in PvE)?

I've never tried, but assume you trade in your current pet in the Zaishen Menagerie and then generate and charm the one you want.

Is there another method or NPC? The Menagerie is a fairly recent addition to the game.

Seriously the Menagerie system of dealing with pets is way overcomplicated for what it is. It seems like it could be simplified. It took me a while last night to figure out how to level my pet up (it wasn't clear that I had to turn him in first).
